Southwest Wildlife: Animal Care Summer Internship
Animal Care Internship – Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center (SWCC)
Looking to gain hands-on experience working with native Arizona wildlife? SWCC is offering unpaid Animal Care Internships for students interested in animal care, wildlife rehabilitation, or related fields. Southwest Wildlife rescues, rehabilitates, and releases native mammals. Animals unable to be released back to the wild get lifetime sanctuary care at SWCC.
What You’ll Do:
Help care for animals like black bears, mountain lions, bobcats, raccoons, javelina, and more
Assist with daily tasks including preparing diets, cleaning enclosures, providing enrichment, and observing animal behavior
Learn about wildlife rehabilitation and sanctuary care
Opportunities to observe medical procedures and help care for orphaned baby animals
Time Commitment:
28 hours/week for 3.5 months
Summer: May–Aug
Fall: Sept–Dec | Apply by Aug 31
Schedule is flexible and set after acceptance
Requirements:
At least a college sophomore
Comfortable working outdoors in all weather
Able to lift 50 lbs and perform physical tasks
Tetanus and rabies vaccines (rabies vaccine not needed until accepted)
$50 admin fee upon acceptance (covers background check)
Details:
Unpaid position (college credit available)
Must provide own transportation, housing, and insurance
