AZ Impact for Good Member Spotlight: Survivor's Empowered
Why We’re Excited:
Survivors Empowered is celebrating our brand-new award as a 501c3 organization, having been founded in October of 2023. Our growth plan involves hiring adedicated team to facilitate two events annually. They will also focus on community relations to raise awareness about the importance of mental health healing with survivors of sexual violence. One of our long-term goals is to partner with law enforcement so that when operations like "Operation We Will Find You" occur, we can help those children afford mental health treatment. We are a diverse, women-owned and operated nonprofit organization. Our board includes survivors, an individual with disabilities, an Indigenous woman, and a board member specializing in financial constraints. We do not discriminate and support men, women, and the LGBTQIA+ community and we aim to learn and grow so that all survivors can feel heard.
Hot Out of the Gate:
Survivors Empowered hosted its first annual festival on May 11, 2024, on the Great Lawn of State Farm Stadium. This family-friendly event featured over twenty-five vendors, a raffle/silent auction booth, balloon artists, yoga and dance instructors, live music, a 360 photobooth, chair massages, a Tarot card reader, a garden club, and other local small businesses. Special guests included Big Red, the Cardinals' mascot, a Renaissance performer, and two influencers. Additionally, a dedicated section offered resources for survivors and the general public to learn more about sexual violence, our mission, other Arizona nonprofits providing resources, therapists accepting various insurance plans, and more. The Heritage Building provided an exceptional menu for the festival. Our inaugural event was a resounding success, and we look forward to hosting the RISE Festival again in 2025, possibly including a fun run.
