AZ Impact for Good Announces David Martinez III as Chief Executive Officer

Longtime Arizona nonprofit leader, grantmaker, and advocate to begin August 24 following unanimous selection by the Board of Directors.

AZ Impact for Good announces that David Martinez III has been unanimously selected by its board of directors as the organization's next Chief Executive Officer. David, a respected Arizona nonprofit and philanthropic leader with nearly two decades of experience strengthening communities across the state, will officially begin his role on August 24, 2026.

David brings a broad perspective to AZ Impact for Good, having served as a nonprofit leader, advocate, grantmaker, educator, and coalition builder throughout his career. Most recently, he served as Director of Strategic Community Partnerships at Vitalyst Health Foundation, where he led capacity-building, grantmaking, and civic health initiatives while working closely with AZ Impact for Good and nonprofit organizations across Arizona to advance the state's nonprofit ecosystem. Throughout his career, he has built a reputation for bringing together nonprofits, philanthropy, community leaders, and partners to create lasting impact across Arizona.

"I am enthusiastic to join the team at AZ Impact for Good because of my deep commitment to our sector and my love for my home state," said David. "Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of working alongside nonprofits, grantmakers, community leaders, and advocates who dedicate themselves every day to improving Arizona. I now have the opportunity to help lead the organization that supports all of them."

An Arizona native, David has dedicated his career to advancing the organizations and partnerships that improve lives across the state. His leadership experience includes roles with Vitalyst, the Center for the Future of Arizona, St. Mary's Food Bank, and the Arizona Students' Association. His work has fostered statewide partnerships, advanced public policy, increased nonprofit capacity, and championed community engagement.

Throughout his time at Vitalyst, he has maintained a close relationship with AZ Impact for Good, supporting advocacy efforts, partnering on statewide initiatives, and helping advance the organization's historic merger that united Arizona's nonprofit and philanthropic communities. Having worked for nonprofit organizations and guided philanthropic investments, David understands both the nonprofit and grantmaker perspectives and the importance of bringing those voices together.

"David is the right leader at the right time for AZ Impact for Good and the communities we serve," said Matt Ellsworth, Chair of the AZ Impact for Good Board of Directors. "Our Board chose David because of his deep experience in Arizona's nonprofit and philanthropic sectors, the trust he has earned through his collaborative leadership style, and his lifelong commitment to strengthening our state.”

One of David's first priorities will be listening to members, partners, and communities across Arizona as he helps shape the organization's next chapter. Looking ahead, David believes this is an important moment for Arizona's nonprofit and philanthropic sector to build on its strengths and continue serving communities across the state. He is also drawn to finding creative ways to support members, and he sees the recent merger that created AZ Impact for Good as a promising foundation with real work still ahead.

"To whom much is given, much is expected," David said. "Growing up in rural Southern Arizona, I benefited from the work of nonprofits, philanthropy, government assistance programs, and the people who invest in strengthening communities. Those experiences shaped who I am. Leading AZ Impact for Good is both an incredible honor and a profound responsibility. I look forward to listening to, learning from, and working in new ways alongside our members. Bringing the state's nonprofit and grantmaking associations under one roof was a bold step, and we're not finished. My job is to help us make good on its promise."

As the only statewide organization that brings together both nonprofits and grantmakers, representing nearly 1,000 members across Arizona, AZ Impact for Good was created to deepen collaboration, build connections, and help the sector respond to Arizona's greatest opportunities and challenges.

David will officially assume the role on August 24, following AZ Impact for Good's annual UNITE + Transform Arizona Conference, where nonprofit and philanthropic leaders from across the state will gather to connect, learn, and be inspired by nationally recognized keynote speaker Diane Yentel, President and CEO of the National Council of Nonprofits.

"I take seriously the trust placed in me and am prepared to hit the ground running,” David said.
